Great Lakes Chapter Ending the Year Right
By Maria I. Contreras
New Year’s greetings from the Great Lakes Chapter! We ended 2022 with a very successful in-person conference in November. The member’s only night offered one continuing education (CE) credit and an industry-sponsored dinner. The following day included a full schedule of speakers for six more CE credits. We were fortunate to have breakfast & lunch sponsored for the attendees as well. We set a record with 19 exhibitors attending! [Photo: center top]
Our quarterly holiday meeting commenced at Ruth’s Chris Steak House with an industry-sponsored educational session followed by our business meeting. Attendees received a travel wine glass engraved with our chapter name and a palm tree as a nod to the upcoming pharmacology conference in Hawaii. Our chapter also donated 20 GAPNA crossbody backpacks to the Area Agency on Aging which included socks, a grocery gift card, ChapStick, and gloves. The backpacks were distributed to the Peterson Senior Center in Pontiac. [Photo: left & Photo: right]
In member news, Ruth Ann Pendergrast, our immediate past president, has her abstract accepted for a poster presentation by the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Society for their 2023 conference titled “Implementation of an Ostomy Support Group-the Importance of Peer-to-Peer Support Within the Ostomate Community.”
Laura Schipper and Michelle Moccia joined Alice Bonner, senior advisor for aging at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and chair of the Moving Forward Nursing Home Quality Coalition and the coalition team in their efforts to address nursing home quality. The work is expected to expand over the next two years. There are seven working committees & one steering committee. If you are interested in participating, please reach out to abonner@ihi.org.
