Chapter Sponsors Two NP Students to Attend Pharmacology Conference

By Maria Baxter

The Maryland Chapter is proud to have sponsored two nurse practitioner students to attend GAPNA’s recent Pharmacology & Prescribing in Older Adults Conference in Philadelphia.

Here is a short bio of these rising stars!

Jason Jeon

Jason Jeon is in his second year of the Adult Gerontology Primary Care DNP program at the University of Maryland, School of Nursing. He has worked as a nurse for 8 years in intensive care, home health, and outpatient setting settings.

He is passionate about caring for older adults and interested in preventing hospital readmissions in the geriatric population. His goal in attending the GAPNA Pharmacology Conference was to expand a different point of view in pharmacological consideration for acute and chronic conditions in older adults.

Jessica Smith

Jessica Smith is in her final semester of the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care DNP program at the University of Maryland, School of Nursing. She has also been a clinical nurse for 10 years at Johns Hopkins Hospital, primarily in cardiac care. She is passionate about delivering safe, compassionate care to older adults. Her DNP project, which she completed last year, was aimed at reducing inappropriate prescribing in the assisted living population through use of the Screening Tool of Older Person’s Prescriptions (STOPP) criteria. She was eager to attend the GAPNA Pharmacology Conference to enhance her knowledge and confidence in prescribing medications commonly prescribed to older adults and increase her awareness of their associated risks.
