Building Momentum

By Maria Baxter

The Maryland Chapter is hoping to build on our momentum from last year!

Our new President Maria Baxter and President Elect Ozioma (Ozi) Erondu took office on January 1, 2022. Allison Carew transitions into the Immediate Past President role. We thank Robin Kauffman for service to the chapter, as she concluded a 3-year term of service.

Maria Baxter, MSN, CRNP, has spent her entire nursing career with Greater Baltimore Medical Center, starting as a nursing student on the geriatric medical unit in 2006. Maria completed her NP studies in 2013 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, as an Adult and Gerontological Primary Care Nurse Practitioner.

She joined the Gilchrist Elder Medical Care practice after graduation and has been serving older adults in the greater Towson area in a variety of settings, including subacute rehab, long-term care, assisted living, and home hospice.

Maria is the team lead NP for the geriatric nurse practitioners of Gilchrist Elder Medical Care.

Ozioma (Ozi) Erondu, DNP, CRNP, received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree specializing in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care with honors from University of Maryland School of Nursing in 2020.

She was the recipient of GAPNA’s 2021 AMDA Futures Educational Grant and a Post-Acute and Long-Term Care 2021 Futures participant.

Ozi is an editorial board member of the Geriatric Nursing journal. She currently works as an Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner for Personalized Health Partners specializing in post-acute and long-term care patients.

The Chapter is planning a dinner meeting with a presentation on respiratory syncytial virus this winter.

We hope to see many of you in our neighborhood in Baltimore in early March for the American Medical Directors’ Association Conference, and at the GAPNA Pharmacology Conference right up Interstate 95 in Philadelphia in late March!
