GAPNA is proud to present GAPNA Chat, the associations first official podcast!
GAPNA Chat premiered in January 2022 and provides interviews and discussions with GAPNA leaders and members of the gerontological healthcare community. The podcast focuses on advocacy, policy, education, professional development, research, and clinical care for older adults.
Meet the GAPNA Chat Host
Dr. Cassandra Vonnes, DNP, GNP-BC, APRN, AOCNP, CPHQ, FAHA, is the first official host of GAPNA Chat. Dr. Vonnes is the Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) Coordinator, Geriatric Oncology, Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, FL, and is a member of the GAPNA Communications Team.

GAPNA Chat will offer at least two different series each year. Series 1 is composed of six episodes featuring GAPNA leaders.

02. Interview with Nurse Leader and GAPNA 2020-2021 President Dr. Sherry Greenberg
Dr. Cassandra Vonnes talks with nurse leader and 2020-2021 GAPNA President Sherry Greenberg. Dr. Greenberg discusses her inspiration for becoming a nurse and her decision to specialize in gerontological nursing; her leadership roles within GAPNA; GAPNA’s 40th anniversary mission to preserve the past, enhance the present, and secure the future; and how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted care for older adults and health care in general.
03. Interview with GNCC President Dr. George Peraza-Smith
Dr. Cassandra Vonnes talks with George Peraza-Smith, DNP, APRN-C, GNP-BC, GS-C, CNE, FAANP, President of the Gerontology Nursing Certification Commission (GNCC). Dr. Peraza-Smith discusses his dedication of being a nurse treating patients across the lifespan, from pediatrics to gerontology; the role of APRNs in the care of older adults; the importance of continuing education and obtaining nursing certification in the specialty of gerontology; and the mission and vision of GNCC.

04. Interview with Gerontological Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Leader Dr. Carolyn Clevenger
Dr. Cassandra Vonnes talks with Carolyn Clevenger, DNP, GNP-BC. Dr. Clevenger is a nationally recognized leader in gerontological nursing and education, and a past-president of GAPNA. Dr. Clevenger discusses her inspiration to become a gerontological nurse, her accomplishments during her service as GAPNA President, her work on the GAPNA Leadership Institute, her leadership style and experience, and her greatest mentors and influences throughout her career. A rising star within GAPNA, Dr. Svensson currently serves as chair of the GAPNA Communications and Awards Committees at the national level, and the GAPNA Georgia Chapter Conference Planning Committee at the local level. Dr. Svensson discusses her inspiration to become a gerontological nurse, her experience as one of the first fellows of the GAPNA Leadership Institute, and her efforts on the GAPNA Communications Committee.
