Meet Tracey Chan: GAPNA’s Winter Rising Star for 2020

Tracey Chan, PhD, ANP-BC, GAPNA’s Winter 2020 Rising Star, is Graduate Nursing Program Chair and faculty member, Madonna University, Livonia, MI

As aprimary care practitioner, Terry is predominately involved in chronic disease management. She enjoys educating patients and hearing their stories but admits the pressure of patient numbers can sometimes make that difficult. As a faculty member, she spends time developing curricula, grading assignments, utilizing case-based lectures, and simulation experiences.

Tracey Chan, PhD, ANP-BCHer inspiration for working in geriatrics is her love of older adults. “They have so much knowledge and life experience to share,” she noted. “Their care can be challenging, and I enjoy a challenge.”

As people live longer, Tracy hopes geriatrics move more to wellness, prevention, and community-based care as hospitals become care centers for only the sickest patients. She envisions use of more technology such as telehealth to access patients to better manage their care.

The favorite part of her work is educating future NPs, Tracey said. She plans “continuing to be a leader in NP education and helping move to competency-based education; providing chronic disease management utilizing telehealth and other newer technologies.”

Tracey’s hobbies include traveling, reading, and downhill skiing. She became involved in GAPNA via the Great Lakes Chapter. “Colleagues in the Great Lakes Chapter, especially Deborah Dunn and Mary Jane Favot, and seeing all the great work they were doing in the community and wanting to be a part of that” was the driving force behind her GAPNA membership.

Congratulations Tracey! We look forward to your insights and expertise as a valued GAPNA member!
