Annual Chapter Conference Planned

By Ruth Ann Pendergrast

Hello fellow GAPNA members from the Great Lakes Chapter. I hope you are all doing well and staying safe!

We have been working for many months on our chapter’s 13th Annual (but first-ever virtual) Gerontological Nursing Conference: Advancing Excellence in Nursing Care to be held 8.00 a.m. - 4.15 p.m. on November 7, 2020. We invite you to join us for a day of evidence-based education, register now.

We would be honored if you join us for these informative presentations with a focus on pressure injuries. Our chapter enthusiasm unites us in learning, builds camaraderie, and creates relationships.

In addition to preparing for the conference, we held our first virtual board meeting. We accomplished many things. This meeting was half virtual and half in person with social distancing.

Technology is ruling us and we are all learning so much more than we ever expected. My grandson doesn’t know how to Zoom and for once I feel on the positive side of the technology learning curve! (Who am I kidding? My grandson is 4. I am still way behind). We also voted to extend the chapter presidential term 1-year because of the pandemic.

We will be holding a virtual chapter meeting in December that will be presented by 3M on wound care. From the positive responses at the GAPNA Annual Conference on wound care topics, I think this meeting will be met with enthusiasm.

The pandemic is affecting all of us in many ways. Please stay strong and take care of yourself. The geriatric community and their families are depending on you!
