Preparing the Next Generation of Leaders

The GAPNA Leadership Institute was founded in 2019 and is a year-long leadership program that includes both online synchronous and face-to-face components.

An experienced and nationally recognized nurse leader facilitates the curriculum. All fellows work one-on-one with mentors, all of whom have held leadership positions within GAPNA.

Projects have included areas of improvement such as development of innovative geriatric communication strategies, clinical pathways, educational content for nurse practitioners, and clinical ladder implementation.

This is an excellent opportunity to engage closely with GAPNA leaders while growing and developing as an advanced practice nurse. The program is high touch and personalized to each mentee facilitated by mentorship with a seasoned GAPNA leader. Mentees gain tremendous value in this dedicated time to focus on moving their leadership skills to the next level.

Benefits of the Leadership Institute:

  • Develop meaningful peer relationships among other fellows.
  • Receive individualized mentorship to establish personal leadership development plan.
  • Increase the capacity for GAPNA leadership and in the workplace.
  • Explore professional organizational operations.

All fellows of the Leadership Institute must commit to:

  • Attend the GAPNA Annual and Pharmacological Conferences during participation year.
  • Participate in all online synchronous online conferences.
  • Develop a GAPNA leadership project.

Eligibility/Selection

All applicants must be GAPNA members in good standing for at least 2 years. Engagement within the organization is highly recommended. Special consideration will be given to GAPNA Rising Stars, Optum nominees, and GAPNA Foundation nominees. This is a highly selective, competitive process focused on finding motivated and committed GAPNA members seeking leadership development.
