New England Chapter Update
By Monica Dube
The New England Chapter’s new board members have settled in and are hoping to make some big changes despite COVID-19.
Our goals of student scholarship and support, advancing practice and networking have us reviewing our scholarship requirements. A $1,500 scholarship will be offered for the 2021-2022 academic year.
Our virtual conference was held April 17 with topics such as wound care, pharmacogenetics, and diseases of the eye in the older adult.
The chapter held a virtual member meeting in February. Next meeting is planned for May. Elections for the new board members will also be held in May.
Our marketing consultant has been invaluable. The new website is up and running along with new Facebook and Instagram pages. We are using social media to spread the word about the benefits of GAPNA membership and posting items specific to geriatrics and general health.
We are planning to offer mentorship opportunities for students and/or new NPs as support during these stressful transitions.
The chapter is partnering with the Massachusetts state NP organization to promote each other’s organization and conference.
Our “notebook” for important chapter information is taking shape. New information will be added as needed.
